With its long history that was marked by the 1789 revolution and its economy which takes second place in the euro zone, deeming, like Germany, to have founded the European Union France intends to continue its world roles and sees itself as a power that has a universal message to give. It has often been accused of wanting to continue its own national project via European integration. Given the crises and the difficulties that Europe now faces France and its German partner lead the States which believe they are responsible to take the European project forward and do not hesitate in forming agreements in order to guarantee progress. In this they are against the more intergovernmental idea that is defended by other nations.
